Land tenure remains a pipedream in South Africa

Land tenure will remain a dream for the majority of South Africans until the colonial legacy of land compartmentalisation has been dismantled. National Research Foundation (NRF) Research Chair in Land Reform and Democracy in South Africa and AC Jordan Chair in Africa Studies at the University of Cape Town, Professor Lungisile Ntsebeza, said that dismantling the apartheid legacy is not a priority for the African National Congress. He looked at land tenure, governance and the judiciary as evidence of the ruling party’s support of an apartheid legacy.
